Are chemical free tampons worth it?

October 17, 2021 2 min read

The vaginal eco system is more sensitive and more absorbent than typical skin.

Some conventional brands use synthetic ingredients and chemicals in their tampons that could be harmful to our body and to our health! We’re talking about harsh ingredients that not only touch a woman’s skin but also may remain on or in her body long after use!

Synthetic and/or scented period care products can irritate the sensitive skin of the vulva. Veeda tampons are natural, hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested, which is very important for vaginal health. In fact, statistics show that yeast infections are less likely to occur with natural products that contain no chemicals and fragrances.

Veeda tampons are made with naturally soft, absorbent 100% pure GMO-Free cotton (that’s it, nothing else!) ensuring that your body only meets with the purest, irritation free ingredients.

Most conventional tampons are made up of rayon, synthetic fibres and polyester in an attempt to increase the absorbency of the tampon. Chlorine bleaching takes place in the manufacturing process to make the tampon appear white. In this process they use a nasty group of chemicals which are called dioxins. Dioxins are a big concern; the World Health Organization classifies dioxins as “highly toxic” and categorizes them as a “known human carcinogen.” When chlorine-bleached cotton biodegrades, it releases these toxic chemicals into the ground, harming the environment.

Veeda tampons are made with 100% natural cotton, making them biodegradable, even in landfill. Since 100% pure cotton is made by nature, it biodegrades by nature and won’t build up in landfill. Our 100% natural cotton is sourced directly from a global network of leading cotton traders and all cotton is cleansed with an oxygen cleansing process, not chlorine-bleached, for a healthier eco-friendlier product. This process removes all dirt and impurities including any synthetic matter and this is the exact same process by which all organic cotton is cleansed with, to ensure it also has no synthetic substances. This ensures that the final tampons are truly 100% natural cotton.

Veeda tampons are lab-tested for over 250 harmful chemicals and contain no wood or synthetic fibres, no additives or pesticides, and no dioxins. Another advantage to using 100% pure, hypoallergenic cotton, is that cotton does not contribute to the growth of the bacteria that causes Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), irritation and allergic reactions.

Without harsh chemicals, Veeda natural period care products are less likely to cause allergic reactions, inflammation or irritation.

Are Veeda products “free from chemicals” or “chemical free”?

All matter, including us, is made up of chemicals, so it defies science to have a product that is chemical-free. Generally, when products are marketed as “chemical free”, they often mean that they are synthetic-free (or made from only natural ingredients).

What makes Veeda different is as much about what’s in our products as what isn’t. We don’t include harmful ingredients that are hidden in conventional or organic feminine care.

Consider making a better choice for both your body and the planet by switching to Veeda period care.
